P.S Tamarind
(01)
Overview
For so long, tamarinds were sold individually, sold in loose and without consistent hygiene or quality. But that changed when P.S Tamarind opened in 1936. P.S Tamarind was the first company to introduce packaged tamarinds, pioneering the sale of tamarind in a unique cuboid shape, soon becoming synonymous with quality and integrity. At present, P.S. Tamarind is not only the largest seller of packaged Indian Tamarind in the world, but the only company currently selling tamarinds packaged in it’s unique and ergonomic package style. P.S Tamarind, started out as a small and local grocery store, opened by a man named P. Shanmugam, who had moved to the small southern town of Kumbakonam and open his dream store. Over time, he travelled not only across the country, but across a plethora of locations globally, forming connections, broadening his knowledge, and slowly expanding his business until it eventually became the international, corporate superpower it is today. And, it wasn’t just the business, but Shanmugam himself who rose in prominence, eventually becoming the head of the States’ Traders Association. Among his many accolades and accomplishment, standing in place of honor is the production machines that he and his company invented, ones which stand leagues above those their competitors and their modern machines could even fathom, even as of 2024.

Challenge
The folks at P.S Tamarind reached out to us and asked for something to help with the perusal and filing of their records. We looked at their issue with the attention and care it deserved, and came to the conclusion that while their record keeping system for analogue records was more than immaculate, near a century of records wouldn’t accommodate effective perusal. We were also requested to update their logo and website for their company. Considering that P.S Tamarind is nearly a century old, and has been in the hands of 4 generations of it’s founders family, we thought it a disservice to alter or erase such a legacy. So, we merely touched up the logo, adding a bit of a modern spark to their tried and tested classic logo. The website on the other hand, took a bit more work. They wanted something new and elegant but also preserved their image, something informative that can facilitate multiple images of company travels, but also nothing radically different or modern.
Impact
To fix this issue, we carefully digitized each and every file in their records rooms into a unified local cloud that we built, configured a Least Privilege Access for access control and data security for the cloud to ensure and strengthen security and set up smart automations to streamline and reduce manual filing required, thereby increasing work efficiency. After taking a look at their previous website, we unfortunately had to start afresh, as it was woefully outdated. However, though it was more work, we are proud to have created a new website that met the strict criteria of P.S Tamarind. And one that they are satisfied with too.
